Unhappy Patron from Gary, IN
My first (and last) experience with Dustie’s Buffet was February 12, 2010 at the Matteson location. My family convened there for my Grand-Aunt’s 90th birthday celebration. Since this was a Friday evening and I had come there straight from work; I arrived a little early. I explained to the hostess which party I was there for and asked if I could be seated and have a cocktail while I waited for my family to arrive. Also, not being a big fan of binge eating, I asked if I could pay for a to-go order and get it on my way out; wanting to say hello briefly and eat later after my long drive home (BIG MISTAKE!) After the supervisor informed me that I COULD NOT EAT take-out food in the back, I explained my requests again; I did not want to eat at this time, that I would purchase food on the way out; I just wanted to order a drink… What I got was a high-chair pushed up to the bar where she (the supervisor) ignored me for about 20 minutes as I listened to both the supervisor and hostess complain about how they needed a drink! Apparently, paying patrons worked their nerves.
My family finally arrived, so I left my detention area and sat on the benches as they paid and waited to be seated. I kid you not, the supervisor shouted at me across the room, “You ready?” After looking around and realizing she was talking to me (after all she ignored me this long), I replied, “Ready for what?” “Weren’t you sitting here waiting for a drink?” she asked. Looking at my watch, I confirmed that was well over 40 minutes ago. I replied, “No, thank you,” and proceeded to tell my family why I would leave after they were seated, refusing to eat or drink there. I only gave 1 star because 0 was not an option, and prefer to patronize places where staff has a much higher level of professionalism and courtesy.
